VIDAR AXLE COUNTING
Side Scanner for Vehicle Axle Counting

Utilizing innovative image-based vehicle classification, automate vehicle categorization and axle counting to optimize traffic flow & maximize revenue.
HIGHLIGHTED FEATURES
On‑Device Axle Counting
Side‑View Scanning Design
The side‑mounted scanning approach enables reliable axle detection independent of vehicle length, speed or lane position.
Edge‑Based Vehicle Classification
Axle count data is generated at the edge and delivered as structured output for classification, tolling or enforcement systems.
Non‑Intrusive Installation
The camera operates without in‑road sensors or civil works, making it suitable for retrofit and roadside deployments.
Consistent Detection Across Traffic Types
Designed to handle mixed traffic environments, including heavy vehicles, trailers and multi‑axle configurations.
Integrator‑Ready Data Output
Axle count events and metadata are available via a documented API for straightforward integration into third‑party platforms.

INTEGRATION OVERVIEW
Deployment Architecture
Vidar Side Scanner operates as a dedicated axle counting sensor, providing axle data independently or as part of a wider vehicle classification system. It can be deployed on its own or combined with ANPR, MMR or speed detection devices at the same site.
Side‑Mounted Scanning Concept
The camera is installed roadside and scans the vehicle profile from the side, allowing axle detection without reliance on lane position, camera angle over the roadway or vehicle length assumptions.
Data Availability
Axle count information, timestamps and related detection data are output as structured data via API. This allows straightforward consumption by tolling engines, enforcement systems or traffic analytics platforms.
Installation and Infrastructure
Operation does not require loops, piezo sensors or other in‑road equipment. This reduces installation complexity and makes the solution suitable for retrofit sites, temporary installations or locations where civil works are not practical.
Network Integration
Standard Ethernet connectivity with PoE allows the camera to be installed using existing roadside network infrastructure. Remote access supports commissioning, configuration changes and diagnostics without repeated site visits.
System Use Cases
Vidar Side Scanner can be integrated into tolling, freight classification, traffic monitoring and enforcement solutions. It supports both single‑site deployments and integration into multi‑location systems.
